Document Description
California State Parks through a cooperative agreement with California State University Stanislaus, Endangered Species Recovery Program, will be installing artificial dens to provide habitat for the San Joaquin kit fox. Approximately 7 escape dens and 7 chamber dens will be installed throughout a 700 acre mitigation area at Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. The kit fox dens will be installed by digging a trench approximately 2 to 3 feet deep, 1 to 2 feet wide, and 15 ft long. Plastic boxes (1 ft x 2 ft), plastic pipe (6 in diam.) and plastic fittings will be placed in the trench. The pipe openings will be open to the surface. The boxes and pipe will be covered with soil. Kit fox escape dens will be installed in the same way. Escape dens are composed of a single piece of plastic pipe, 7 in. diam., and 10 to 18 ft long. Trenches will be dug with a backhoe and using hand tools. DPR-approved standard project requirements have been incorporated into this project. A copy of these requirements may be obtained by submitting a request to the project Environmental Coordinator listed below.
