Document Description
The Riverside Unified School District is proposing to construct a one story multipurpose room (MPR) at Central Middle School. The MPR would be developed over an existing basement of a building that was burned in the 1970s. The basement is currently utilized by the school as a warning kitchen and cafeteria. The MPR would be accessible to disabled persons and would include a full kitchen, cafeteria, and storage. When the space is not used as a cafeteria, up to 750 unfixed chairs can be set up in this area. The MPR also includes two ancillary classrooms for music and choral instruction; development of these classrooms would not increase the student capacity of the campus. The proposed project also includes an outdoor lunch shelter area. Project implementation would require relocation of the existing utilities, filling in the existing basement with 6,000 cubic yards of dirt, and construction of the 16,000-square-foot MPR. The purpose of this project is to replace antiquated facilities with modern, functional facilities. The beneficiaries of the project are school occupants and community members (via the center Civic Center Act) who would be able to use the new amenities.
