Document Description
Azusa Rock Quarry is an existing aggregate surface mine in operation at the Project Site. In 1988, the City of Azusa issued Conditional use Permit ("CUP") C-89-20 and a reclamation plan for the Azusa Rock Quarry. Those documents govern the mining and reclamation activities that occur at the Project Site. The Project would modify the 1988 CUP, implement a development agreement between the City and Vulcan Materials Company (the owner of the Project Site), and revise the Azusa Rock Quarry Reclamation Plan. Modification of CUP C-89-20 includes: revising the mining activity location, revising the mine phasing sequence, revising the reclamation sequence, revising the slope reclamation benching technique and the City entering into a development agreement with Vulcan Materials Company. Revisions to the Azusa Rock Quarry Reclamation Plan include: updating the type of reclamation from steep slope reclamation to micro-benching, relocating the mining area to a less visible portion of the Project Site, accelerating the reclamation schedule for the east side of the Project Site, and requiring concurrent reclamation with native vegetation.
