Document Description
The project entails installation and removal of two temporary summer Bailey bridges on the South Fork Eel River. The crossing in Humboldt County is for accessing a portion of Richardson Grove State Park and the crossing in Mendocino County is for accessing a portion of Standish Hickey State Recreation Area. The Bailey Bridge is a U.S. military-style panel bridge that assembles by extending from one abutment to reach the other abutment. The flexible bridge design allows the river to be spanned without moving any materials into the summer low flow channel. Bridge lengths are adjustable and can vary according to river configuration from year to year to match the dynamic river bar. Bridge abutments and approach ramps would be constructed first. Depending on site location, and requirements of other permits, bridge abutments consist of gravel-filled concrete pipes or large boulders backfilled with river gravel. In order for the far side bridge abutments and approach ramps to be developed, the heavy equipment must ford the river to accomplish the work.
