Document Description
The proposed project is to replace the ABSMC Merritt Pavilion hospital building, which includes acute care patient facilities, with new patient care pavilion to comply with the regulations developed by the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), as mandated by the Alquist Act, as amended in 1994 by Senate Bill (SB) 1953, and prior to the January 1, 2013 compliance date in SB 1953. Phase 1 (estimated 2010 through 2014) development would construct an 11 story ~230,000 sf patient care pavilion on Hawthorne Avenue; a new 7 level, 1,067 space, 392,800 sf parking garage; a new temporary surface parking lot; an additional two new generators to serve the new patient care pavilion; and demolition of 6 existing buildings. Future phases (prior to 2035 and within 15 yrs of completion of Phase 1) would include a new 1 story, 32,000 sf fitness center located at the top of the Phase 1 parking structure; a new 5 story, 175,000 sf medical office building; a new 4 story, 72,500 sf building for use by Samuel Merritt University; and demolition of 3 existing buildings, including one that is potentially historical resource (418 30th St) and the potential closure of a portion of Summit Street within the campus as a pedestrian plaza.
