Document Description
The Hemet Unified School District, as the lead agency, proposes to acquire a 42-acre site to construct and operate a new 10-acres elementary school (Currie Ranch Elementary School) and a new 19.3-acres middle school (Valle Vista Middle School). The schools would be located immediately adjacent to one another, but would operate independently. The new schools are intended to accommodate increased student population and to help relieve overcrowding at existing local schools. Project development would include the construction of approximately 152,686 square feet of enclosed space (including classroom, administrative, and support buildings), a turf-covered playfields and paved hardcourt areas, parking and student drop-off areas, and other amenities common to modern schools. Approximately 12.7 acres of the site lie within a floodway, which precludes the development of school facilities. This undevelopable area would be used for a stormwater retention basin, but would otherwise remain ungraded.
