Document Description
During a recent maintenance inspection by the Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) it was discovered that existing rock slop protection for the channel under the Sweeney Creek railroad crossing, a feature of the Ulatis Flood Control Project, was displaced from under bridge leaving the foundation of bridge exposed to high flow scour. Staff is concerned with the potential for the situation to worsen if not adequately protected before significant storms occur. The current channel flow-line is lower than the elevation of the top of the bottom of the footing. Therefore, a minimal amount of additional scour could endanger the structure. SCWA is responsible for maintenance of the channel.
To prevent further undermining of the channel bottom, SCWA will install rock cross-vanes immediately US and DS of the structure to arrest further degradation of the channel bottom under the structure. Rock backfill (RSP) will be replaced between the grade control features to mitigate for loss of bed material around the foundation and prevent further erosion. The cross vanes features will hold the RSP in-place to minimize future maintenance.
