Document Description
The proposed project consists of signalization of the three-way intersection of Geller Drive and Empire Grade Road, at the west entrance to the UC Santa Cruz campus. Empire Grade, a County road, is a two-lane paved rural road that is the principal route into the City of Santa Cruz for resident of rural neighborhoods west and north of the UCSC campus. The purpose of the project is improve traffic flow and safety. The intersection currently meets Caltrans signal warrants.

Reasons for Exemption
The project would make minor alterations to existing roadways that are required to improve traffic operations and safety under existing conditions, and would not involve an expansion in use. Ground disturbance would be limited to trenching in an existing roadway right-of-way for installation of utilities, with subsequent restoration of the ground surface.
