Document Description
Caltrans is proposing a project to improve traffic operations at the intersection of state Route (SR) 29 and Spruce grove Road, located approximately 1.5 miles south of the town of Lower Lake (Post Mile (PM) 18.5 to 19.2). Southbound SR 29 will be asymmetrically widened to provide a dedicated left-turn lane onto Spruce Grove Road. The left-turn lane will be constructed for southbound SR 29 traffic onto eastbound Spruce Grove Road North. Widening will occur to the west of SR 29. No soil disturbance will occur to the east of SR 29, except for shoulder backing placed to match the new asphalt concrete (AC) overlay. The project will include the extension of two existing drainage systems to match the new width of the highway, street lighting, shoulder backing, and AC overall. A biofiltration swale (west of SR 29) and a biofiltration strip (east of SR 29) will also be constructed to treat storm water that sheet flows from the highway. Biofiltration swales are vegetated channels and biofiltration strips are broad vegetated surfaces. The purpose of the project is to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions that occur within the proposed project limits. Construction of the proposed project is anticipated to being in June 2009, and to be completed in May 2010. The project is expected to take 45 working days to complete.
Drainage work at an unnamed drainage ditch (PM 18.76) will include removal of the existing headwall, extension of the existing 24-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) by 6 feet, placement of a new headwall, and placement of approximately 3 cubic yards of rock slops protection (RSP) with fabric. Drainage work at Clayton Creek (PM 18.89) will include removal of the existing headwall, extension of the existing 3-foot by 5-foot double pre-cast box culvert by 25 feet, placement of a new headwall, and placement of approximately 6 cubic yards of RSP with fabric.
