The San Mateo County Farm Bureau in cooperation with the property landowner, AMerican Rivers and Regulatory Agencies including National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) is proposing to remove an existing redwood log dam from Waterman Creek. The 12-foot high log dam is a barrier for fish passage. The dam will be removed in a phased approach in wich the top two of three tiers of logs will be removed int he first year and the channel conditions will be monitored by the RWQCB gor the first season (Phase 1). Phase 2, if deemed appropriate by the Agencies, will include the removal fromt eh log dam in Waterman Creek. Issuance of a Streambed Alteration Agreement Nmber 1600-2008-0391
The project entails restoration of habitat for fish by notching a dam which is full barrier for fish passage. There will be no significant adverse impacts on sensivtive species and will potentially improve habitat.
