Document Description
A modular will be placed on the grounds of San Quentin State Prison (SQSP), adjacent to the staff residential area in the northwest section of the property, in a former playground area. The modular will house offices for the Decentralized Revocation Unit (that is, offices for processing revoked paroles). The project is needed to provide adequate program space to accommodate the DRU operation, which has been relocated to insufficient facilities to accommodate other programming functions. Existing on-site utilities will be extended to the modular building, requiring some trenching. The project will require some tree removal, however, none of the trees are listed in Marin County's Native Tree Preservation and Protection Ordinance.

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Sec.15303
Reasons for Exemption
This project consists of a limited number of new, small facilities (CEQA Guidelines 15303) and involves negligible or no permanent effect on the environment. Existing on-site utilities will be extended to the new structure, requiring some trenching. All necessary public services and facilities are available. The area is not environmentally sensitive and exists of mown lawn grass. This is one of a class of projects the Secretary for Resources has found does not have a significant effect on the environment, and therefore is declared to be categorically exempt from the requirement for preparing an environmental document.
