Document Description
Caltrans is proposing to construct improvements at 7 spot locations on State Route (SR) 197 and U.S. Route (US) 199 in Del Norte County to be able to reclassify the routes as part of the Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) truck route network. The primary purpose of the proposed project is to improve these 7 spots so that two STAA trucks passing in opposite directions can be accommodated. By making improvements to accommodate STAA trucks, the prohibition for STAA vehicles would be removed, and the safety and operation of US Route 199 and SR 197 would be improved. The primary need for the project is the result of sub-standard curves; absence of, or substandard, shoulders along the traveled way; and narrow lanes.
