Pursuant to Chapter 6.8 of the Health and Safety Code, Section 25300, the project is the DTSC’s approval to implement the Empire Mine State Historic Park Residences’ Yards Removal Action Workplan, Alternative 5, Selective Removal and Replacement of Shallow Soil for the Empire Mine State Historic Park. Alternative 5 will remove impacted soil up to 1.5 ft below ground surface in areas with constituents of concern exceeding cleanup goals. Soil will be replaced with clean material sourced from other areas of the Park or with clean import material, eliminating potential exposure pathways for human receptors. Project activities include the following: • excavation of approximately 154 cubic yards of contaminated materials within the Residences’ Yards areas up to a depth of 18 inches, • offsite disposal of contaminated materials to an authorized hazardous waste disposal facility, and • placement of clean fill to replace the contaminated materials.
