Document Description
The California Department of Transportation proposes a project to stabilize the hillside on northbound State Route 49 between the communities of Coulterville and Bear Valley in Mariposa County. The Bagby rock slide first occurred on May 31, 2008; it deposited hillside material onto State Route 49 and blocked the road. Construction would occur on the northbound side of State Route 49 within Caltrans and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) right of way. Repair work would be done as a state-only funded project under a Caltrans Director's Order. The proposed project will stabilize the hillside to prevent further sloughing of material into the roadway, and it will prevent potential danger to highway travelers, damage to property, and impairment of essential public highway services.
