Document Description
The Old Camp Nine Bridge Removal Project consists of the removal of the Old Camp Nine Bridge. Currently, the bridge poses a significant safety concern to both recreationalists within the New Melones Recreation Area and trespassers. The bridge platform and abutments are damaged, disintegrating, or destroyed; concrete footings have been eroded by water; the bridge platform has been vandalized; and a portion of the bridge represents an extreme hazard due to the eroded abutments and compromised supports, gaping holes, missing deck, broken railings, and confirmed presence of lead based paint. The controlled demolition includes removing all steel structures, guard rails, and decking materials. The two concrete piers and six concrete footings will be removed to the bedrock level. In addition, the existing concrete abutment and wing walls associated with the east approach will be removed.
