Document Description
The applicant proposes to implement the Wicklow Western Slope Fuels Management Action Plan (FMAP), which focuses on 91-acres of the 478-acre project site. The FMAP proposes to reduce fire hazards by entirely removing eucalyptus trees and thinning the northern coastal scrub within 100-feet of the boundary shared with residential properties on Dolphine Avenue and El Granada Boulevard. Outside of the 100-foot buffer and along the perimeter access road (both sides) the eucalyptus trees will be thinned to a 35-foot spacing and shrubs will be cleared. In areas of 1,000 square feet or more where surface soils are exposed reseeding with native vegetation will occur to soften the visual impact and prevent erosion. In order to protect native trees, the FMAP proposes to remove all Eucalyptus trees within 50-feet of a Monterey Pine tree or Monterey Cypress tree. The plan also proposes mowing coastal scrub vegetation that borders the perimeter access road into islands and thereby providing safety zones for refuge for firefighters.
