Document Description
SFPUC is proposing the Pulgas Discharge Channel Modifications Project. The project is located within the City and County of San Francisco-owned Peninsula watershed near the southern end of Upper Crystal Springs Reservoir in unincorporated San Mateo County, near the town of Woodside. The project site is located west of Canada Road and south of Hwy 92 and I-280 interchange. The discharge channel is adjacent to the Pulgas Water Temple, a monument to the 1934 completion of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. The Pulgas Discharge Channel, which was buil on the early 1920's, is an open, ~800 ft longm rectangular shaped channel constructed of reinforced concrete. The channel conveys imported water from the Tuolumne River and Alameda Creek watersheds through the Pulgas Tunnel and the adjacent dechloramination facility (built in 2001) to upper Crystal Springs Reservoir. The proposed project includes raising the height of the channel walls, repair to the channel slab and walls, and a subdrain pipe replacement. The repaired/replaced subdrain pipe would require excavation of ~0.2 acre area of willow riparian habitat within CA Dept of Fish and Game jurisdiction. Subdrain repair work is estimated to require two months of construction activities. Upon completion of the construction activities, the excavated soil would be backfilled, recontoured and the area would be revegetated with willow riparian vegetation. The CA Dept of Fish and Game is executing a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement No. 1600-2008-0466-3 pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code to the project applicant, Kirit Bavishi, SF Public Utilities COmmission.
