Document Description
The District's sole sourse of water supplies is from local groundwater wells within the Twentynine Palms Groundwater Basin. The District's portion of this groundwater basin has historically been divided into four subbasins: Indian Cove, Fortynine Palms, Eastern, and Mesquite Lake. As of 2007, the District had 17 production wells, of which 9 are in active operation. The remaining wells are inactive and/or used for groundwater monitoring. According to the District's Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP or Plan), the total water demand in the District was 3,203 acre-feet (AF) in 2004, with a project demand of 4,739 in 2030. The objective of the proposed well is to continue to increase the District's water production capacity to meet peak day demand requirements of existing development and future connections. The Twentynine Palms Water District (District) proposes to construct the new well and related appurtenances within the City of Twentynine Palms, within the Fortynine Palms Canyon Subbasin. The new well is anticipated to be drilled to a depth of approximately 500 feet below ground surface (bgs). The well is anticipated to yield approximately 900 gallons per minute (gpm). Water pumped from the proposed well will be treated with a sodium hypochlorite chlorination system to provide disinfection.
