Document Description
The purpose of the Housing Element is to provide suitable housing for all city residents and sets forth the city's strategy to address housing needs. It includes the preservation and improvement of the city's residential character, the expansion of housing opportunities for all economic segments of the city, and the provision of guidance and direction for local government decision-making on all matters relating to housing. As required by State law, Lakewood has identified programs in this Housing Element to meet its "fair share" of the existing and future housing needs. According to the Southern California Association of Governments, Regional Housing Needs Assessment, there is a need for an additional 673 units in the city between 2008 and 2014.
