Document Description
The proposed project consists of implementation of storm water control improvements at about 33 locations in the Jordan Gulch and Moore Creek Drainages on the UCSC main campus. These natural drainages on the campus, used to convey both natural storm water runoff and runoff from development, are experiencing progressive erosion, and sinkholes within the drainages have become clogged with silt and debris. This has reduced the ability of drainages to infiltrate water. The project would install check dams and step pools, reinforce banks, and implement other measures to restore natural infiltration, reduce siltation and halt progressive erosion. The project is not designed to address any increases in runoff or increase the capacity of existing campus utilities; nor would it increase campus population; it simply would restore the ability of natural drainages to handle existing storm water flows. The project was analyzed in the UC Santa Cruz Infrastructure Improvements Project, Phase 2 Initial Study/Mitigation Negative Declaration, which was certified by the Chancellor of UC Santa Cruz on July 8, 2008.
