Document Description
The City of St. Helena plans to widen the shoulder on the south side of the embankment on the west side of the bridge and revise the pavement markings to improve driver sight distances for both approach to and departure from the bridge. In addition, an existing water line under the pavement on the bridge will be replaced. No physical changes are proposed to the existing bridge, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The primary purposes of the project area to improve safety and preserve and extend the life span of the historic stone arch bridge reducing its rehabilitation and ongoing maintenance needs by reducing vehicle contacts with the bridge. An existing water line will be replaced while the bridge is closed in order to improve its reliability without imposing a subsequent closure.
