Document Description
The Nevada County Resource Conservation District is requesting $406,000 from the Sierra Nevada Conservany's Competive Grants Program to fund the completion of a 15-mile long fuel break project. The fuel break would create a critical fire break in an area at risk for catastrophic fires, around the Scotts Flat Reservoir. The grant will also fund the removal of fuels within a 9.5-acre riparian corridor, which will be followed by restoration of native riparian vegetation.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed fuel reduction and vegetation management activities are not expected to generate any significant environmental effects. A registered professional forester will supervise the fuels reduction work and will prescribe the fuels treatment, advise for pest management, erosion control and forest health. The vegetation removal will generally be done by hand-crews; the use of mechanical equipment will be minimized where possible.
