Document Description
The Upper Merced River Watershed Council is requesting $93,108 from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy's strategic opportunity grants program to renovate the interior of a historic building to include a visitor center and community center focusing on Merced River ecology; improve exterior signage; and conduct focus groups to determine content of permanent educational displays (Phase I). Phase II of the project will include designing and installing permanent educational displays inside and outside the renovated buildings as well as beginning educational programs.

Reasons for Exemption
The renovation will involve no expansion of the existing building. Installing a French drain (a ditch filled wtih gravel, rock that directs surface and ground water away from an area) and signs/educational displays will involve minor trenching and backfilling, but all ground surfaces will be restored.
