- Close the opening of 2 vertical mine shafts ~30' deep and 80' deep within Auburn State Recreaiton Area to prevent emergencies and protect public health and safety. Due to the proximity of the shafts to the Shirland Canal Trail, a plug ~6' ddep of expandable foam which hardens will close the shaft entrances. Additional work will cover the top of the shaft with ~2' of native soil material. State Parks is working with the Abandoned Mine Unit of the California Dept. of Conservation in implementing this project.
