Document Description
Close the opening to a vertical mine shaft ~30' deep within Auburn State Recreation Area to prevent emergencies and protect public health and safety. Due to the proximity of the shaft to the Shirland Canal Trail, a plug ~6' deep of expandable foam which hardens will close the shaft entrance. Additional work will cover the top of the shaft with ~2' of native soil material. State Parks is working with the Abandoned Mine Unit of the CA Dept. of Conservation in implementing this project.
