Present Land Use
The existing reservoir, which is proposed to be expanded, is located within the City of Yucaipa and has a land use designation of Planned Development. The proposed pipeline is located in both the unincorporated County and the City of Redlands. The County land use designation is Open Space and the zoning is Flood Control.
Document Description
The proposed project would enlarge the Crafton Hills Reservoir from a useable storage capacity of 85 acre-feet to approximately 225 acre-feet. A notch in the ridge dividing the drainages would be excavated to enlarge the reservoir into the adjacent drainage. An earthfill dam would be constructed within the drainage course adjacent to the existing reservoir. Access roads, cut slopes, and operational dam equipment would be installed. In addition, a 1/2 mile segment of 48-inch connector pipeline would be built to connect to the East Branch Extension Pipeline Reach I to the 48-inch Yucaipa Pipeline owned and operated by the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District. The pipeline would allow DWR to maintain water deliveries to Reach 2 and Reach 3 segments of the East Branch Extension while the reservoir is being enlarged. After the proposed project is completed, the connector pipeline would remain in place to provide an emergency backup in the event of a reservoir outage.
