Document Description
The City of Shafter owns and operates seven active groundwater wells that deliver domestic water to its municipal distribution system. The City is proposing to drill and construct a new groundwater well with supporting treatment systems to expand and improve the operating efficiency and capacity of the distribution system for existing water users and planned development. The new well site will be constructed on an existing City-owned lot that is 2.47 acres in size.

Reasons for Exemption
The new groundwater well is exempt from CEQA because the water supply and distribution lines are only 10" in diameter. The length of the connection is only 100'. There is no sensitive species habitat, no record of sensitive species, wetlands, or historical structures within, adjacent to, or near the groundwater well site. The area surrounding the groundwater well site is developed and planned for urban uses.
