- Document Description
- Project construction activities include 151 miles of new 500 kilovolt (kV) and 21 miles of new 220 kV transmission lines, as well as the installation of 665 new transmission structures including 386 lattice steel towers, 74 tubular steel poles, and 205 new lightweight steel poles within the 172 miles of right-of-way. Approximately 3.7 miles of Segment 8A through the City of Chino Hills will be installed in an underground configuration. The project also includes the new Whirlwind Substation, expansion and upgrade of existing Antelope 225 miles of new roads, 145 wire setup sites, two horizontal directional drilling pits, and the removal of 319 structures. the project will result in impacts to 219.04 acres of habitat for desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and Mohave ground squirrel (Spermophilus mohavensis), 578.86 acres of habitat for Swainson's hawk (Buteo swainsoni) foraging and/or foraging habitat, 616 acres of habitat for least Bell's vireo (vireo bellii pusillus), and willow flycatcher (Empidonax traillii). The project is expected to result in the incidental take of individual desert tortoise (threatened), Mohave ground squirrel (threatened), Swainson's hawk (threatened), least Bells vireo (endangered), and willow flycatcher (endangered), all listed under the CESA. The incidental take permit for this project authorizes incidental take of designated species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of project implementation.
