Document Description
The State Hazard Mitigation Plan (SHMP) is the official statement of California's statewide hazard mitigation goals, strategies, and priorities. The goals of this updated plan are to significantly reduce life loss and injuries and minimize damage to structures and property from disasters, protect the environment, and promote hazard mitigation as an integrated public policy, i.e., create safer communities and state. The SHMP was approved by FEMA and published by OES as a Standard State Hazard Mitigation Plan in November 2004 under the terms of Interim Final Rule (44 CFR 201) for administration of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000, P.L. 106-390), and is required to be updated every three years.
