- Document Description
- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to realign State Route 129 in an area known as Chittenden Pass and Pajaro Gap in Santa Cruz County approximately eight miles east of the City of Watsonville. This project would remove a compound curve and replace it with one curve. This curve correction would require the existing retaining wall to be removed and replaced with a soldier pile retaining wall. The purpose of the project is to improve safety for the traveling public on this portion of Route 129. This project is needed because the current total accident rate of 7.87 accidents per million vehicle miles (ACCS/MVM) is nearly six times the statewide average of 1.34 ACCS/MVM for similar facilities.
