- Document Description
- NOTE: Reference SCH # 1992051024/ Final 1CD Since the 1995 EIS/EIR, the approved landfill site has been bought by the Los Angeles County Sanitation District (LACSD), who have requested the existing CUP for the landfill and rail haul delivery of municipal solid waste (MSW) be revised to 1) allow up to 4,000 tons per day (tpd) of MSW to be delivered to the landfill site by truck. This amount represents approximately 20% of the maximum tonnage to be delivered to the site. The remaining MSW would be delivered by train, as provided in the existing CUP; 2) to remove trucking limits on SR-78 east of Brawley during weekends from October to May, when traffic is increased by recreational vehicles; and 3) allow LACSD to dispose of or use up to 600 tpd of treated incinerator ash at the landfill. Such ash is not classified as hazardous waste by the State of California. In addition, LACSD has proposed development of a "truck yard" in northwest Imperial County near AR-86 where trailers containing MSW would be transferred from on tractor to another, for the final delivery to the landfill. The exact location, acreage and design of this proposed facility have not yet been defined, and so an environmental analysis of this facility will require a subsequent environmental analysis.
