Document Description
Transmission planning, wind resource integration and environmental issues are the next items on the critical path for developing the expanded Tehachapi-Mojave Area. Significant technological progress has been made since the first wind turbines were installed in California; and sensitivity to community, environmental and land-use issues has increased. To support development of an area-wide process, proposed research activities entail using the state-of-the-art monitoring technologies and standardized protocols to collect information essential for planning, analysis and continued tracking of the wind development in the area. This research concentrates on two areas: characterizing and forecasting wind resources in the newly defined wind resource area utilizing state-of-the-art modeling and forecasting techniques coupled with on-site monitoring of data; and testing protocols related to the newly developed avian siting guidelines.
