Document Description
Prior to July 1, 2007, CAL FIRE's Engine 4173, its four-person crew, equipment, and supplies will be relocated from its current location at the Tulare County Springville Fire Station to CAL FIRE's recently-constructed Bear Creek Forest Fire Station located at 39582 Balch Park Road in Springville, CA. This relocation is a result of the recent termination of the Schedule-A Contract between CAL FIRE and Tulare County. The project will combine engines 4182 and 4183 to provide better fire protection services to the Tule Battalion and neighboring regions by placing two engines and crews closer to the anticipated wildfire locations in the Blue Ridge and Mountain Home areas. The Bear Creek FFS was built to house two engines and crews.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt because it involves relocation of an engine company to an existing facility which was previously studied for environmental impacts. The slight increase in persons housed at the new Bear Creek FFS will not result in significant impact in water consumption, sewage generation, or increased traffic or noise affecting the communities near Springville. Fire protection services will not be impacted. This project will not result in any significant environmental impacts. Documentation of the environmental analysis is on file at CAL FIRE's Tulare Unit Headquarters in Visalia.
