Document Description
CAL FIRE will soon be terminating its lease to operate the Milo FFS. The Milo station will be closed, abandoned, and the property will be returned to the landowner. Engine 4182, its four-person crew, equipment, and supplies will be relocated to the newly constructed Bear Creek FFS, 39582 Balch Park Road, Springville, CA which is located approximately 5 miles north of the intersection of Highway 190 and Balch Park Road. The actions of the landowner following the State's abandonment at Milo are not precisely known. The relocation is expected to take place in July 2007. The move will combine engines 4182 and 4173 to provide better fire protection services to the Tule Battalion and neighboring regions by placing two engines and crews closer to the anticipated wildlife locations in the Blue Ridge and Mountain Home areas.

Reasons for Exemption
The potential environmental impacts resulting from the construction of the new fire station were addressed in a separate CEQA document. A significant historic building exists at Milo FFS which could be demolished by the landowner following abandonment of the property by the State. This could constitute a significant environmental impacts, however, that impact has been addressed and mitigated in CAL FIRE's Management Plan for CDF's Historic Buildings and Archaeological Sites and its accompanying EIR - certified in 2001. The potential impact to historic resources resulting from this project is covered by that Plan and EIR. No other significant environmental impacts are likely to occur through this project. The Department's Archaeologist and Historic Preservation Officer reviewed the project. The environmental review work supporting this NOE is on file at CAL FIRE's Tulare Unit Headquarters in Visalia. This project is exempt from the provisions of CEQA because it involves actions at existing facilities which will not result in significant environmental impacts other than the historic building issue which was previously addressed.
