Document Description
This proposed project will alter San Diego Creek to remove sediment from Basins 2 and 3 to meet the requirements of the San Diego Creek Channel TMDL for Sediment adopted by the Regional Water Quality Control Board in 1999 and to implement standard maintenance procedures set forth in the San Diego Creek Channel (F05) Upper Newport Bay to I-405 Freeway Programmatic Operations and Maintenance manual, prepared by RBF Consulting and dated may 19, 2009. Project activities consists of sediment and vegetation removal necessary to restore the channel to its as-built condition and subsequent routine vegetation and sediment removal required to maintain the designed channel cross-sections. Routine maintenance includes: semi-annual facilities inspections, which may result in minor trimming of native vegetation to obtain access; sediment removal to as-built condition; vegetation removal from the channel invert, in-channel sediment basins, and along the channel banks, excepting the 40-foot-wide vegetated corridor on the eastern bank; removal within the 40-foot-wide vegetated corridor of non-native vegetation and native trees with trunk diameters at breast height (DBH) in excess of three inches, leaving four native trees with dbh over three inches per 100 linear feet of channel; and trash and debris removal. Impacts resulting from vegetation and sediment removal will occur outside the 40-foot-wide vegetated corridor, except minor vegetation trimming for inspection access, removal of exotic vegetation and removal of trees with dbh greater than three inches will occur within the 40-foot wide vegetated corridor.
