An inactive landfill covering approximately 32 acres is located on the western edge of San Diego International Airport (referred to as the former Naval Training Center Landfill). The SDCRAA proposed to remediate the former landfill in accordance with local, state and federal guidelines for landfill remediation and use for airport purposes. The landfill remediation will remove municipal solid waste, burn ash, and some surrounding soils to remove a potential source of groundwater contaminants and reduce exposure to environmental and human receptors.
