Document Description
The City has approved a project by Granite Construction Company to utilize 178 acres of the 356 acre project site for incremental phased sand, gravel and aggregate mining at an estimated rate of 332,000 cy (450,000 net tons) per year for 86 yrs. The average mining depth would be 100 ft below ground surface. Upon completion of mining activity, the total excavation area would ultimately occupy 291.5 acres (including 113.5 acres on an existing mining operation). The remaining 178 acre of the 356 acre project site will be undisturbed and left as open space for habitat for the desert tortoise and other threatened or endangered species. The mine expansion area and the existing mining site (a total acreage of 469.5 acres) will be reclaimed pursuant to a reclamation plan.
