Document Description
The Golden State Water Company (GSWC) is proposing the construction of a wellhead treatment system at an existing drinking water supply well (proposed project). The existing well, owned and operated by GSWC has been impacted with low levels of perchlorate and trichloroethylene (TCE). While the levels are currently less than the maximum levels allowed under state and federal drinking water standards, chemical concentrations are expected to increase over time due to migration of an off-site groundwater plume. GSWC is seeking to obtain a permit from the DHS that would allow the use of the treated groundwater as a water supply source. If the treatment system is operational prior to final approval of the 97-005 permit and influent chemical concentrations exceed regulatory standards, the treated groundwater would be discharged into the storm drain system and ultimately to the American River via a new underground pipeline extending from the project site to the existing storm drain.
