Document Description
SWRCB, as the responsible agency, has issued a water supply permit for this Project. The City adopted a Neg Dec. that included the installation of the disinfection facilities project phase, and the ion exchange treatment system project phase that will be constructed later. The Project will operate to disinfect water from five Sunset Wells using chloramine treatment prior to storage, and allow treatment of perchlorate and nitrate through blending with imported water within the Sunset Reservoir. The construction area for the Project is located on a flat surface (0.7 acre) in the former parking area of the Sunset Reservoir. Project installation included two chemical storage tanks, and an above-ground 2,344 gallon aqueous ammonia tank. In addition, three vaults were installed in series along the 20-inch collector pipeline near the containment structure. These include vaults for:
sodium hypchlorite injection and flow metering,
sampling chlorine and for ammonia injection, and
monochloramine sampling.
Construction included excavations to install the well, pipelines, and the disinfection facility; the disturbed area was restored with asphalt paving. All construction waste was transported to various recycle facilities in LA County.
