Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
Section 15303
Reasons for Exemption
The project consists of approximately 3,360 square feet of classrooms, office, and bathroom space, significantly less than the 10,000 sf maximum allowed by the Class 3 exemption. The modular buildings and parking would be located on existing paved surfaces (tennis courts and parking lots) not currently in use and does not include the removal of trees or native plant species. Surrounding uses include a child development center, the Veteran's Transition Center, FORA office building complex approved and under construction, and Cypress Knolls senior community approved (redevelopment of existing Army housing) but not yet developed. The project is consistent with existing planning and zoning designations (Educational - MPC Campus); is within the city limits of Marina; is on a site with no value as habitat for endangered, rare, or threatened species; and would not result in significant effects relating to traffic, noise, air quality, or water quality.
