Document Description
The intent of this project is to create an 8.1 mile shaded fuel break along Lumpkin Road having a width of 50 to 300 feet on each side of the road depending on fire behavior factors. Phase one will include fuel reduction along Lumpkin Road between Enterprise Road and Canfield Drive. The balance of the project will be completed on phases over the next several years. The shaded fuel break will be completed utilizing hand crews applying manual vegetation removal techniques with some chipping involved.

Reasons for Exemption
Section 15304(i) allows minor alteration of the vegetation, including fuel management activities to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation, provided the activities do not result in the taking of endangered, rare, or threatened plant/animal species, or cause significant erosion and sedimentation of surface waters. Ground disturbing activity will be minimal as work will be accomplished utilizing hand crews, and no equipment will leave existing road surfaces. A current Archaeological records search and field survey were conducted on this project. Several sites were located per the Information Center search and are listed in the Archaeological report. Archaeologist's protection measurse: no burning will take place without a final site inspection; ensuring piles are not placed within 10 feet of any Archaeological feature. Burning will be conducted only as allowed by the local Butte County Air Quality Control Board. This project as proposed will not have a significant impact on the environment.
