Document Description
The project sponsor, the Washington Hospital Healthcare System (WHHS), proposes to adopt and implement a 2010 to 2030 Site Master Plan that would guide development at its main medical campus to the year 2030. The Project would entail demolition and new construction on the Main Campus (16.5 acres), located at 2000 Mowry Avenue in the City of Fremont. The Project would provide 940,300 sf of WHHS medical facilities (an approximate 573,595 sf increase over the current size of 366,705 sf) for inpatient and outpatient care, and for support and administrative space. The Project would comprise about 535 hospital beds, 10 nursing units, and space for the following facilities: Emergency Department (ED); Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care Unit (ICU/CCU); Surgery; Radiology; Diagnostic and Treatment facilities; and Medical and Administrative offices. The Project would also include construction of a new 207,000 sf, 490 space parking garage, extension of the ambulatory care services; and a new main entrance, altrium, and plaza area, as well as new landscaping and reconfigured surface parking. Demolition would include the existing laundry facility building, the Whitake Pavilion, the temporary administrative office building and ~152,000 sf of the circa 1958 main hospital building. The WHHS proposes the Project to meet the needs of a 21st century health care operation and to comply with Senat Bill 1953, which implements the Hospital Seismic Safety Act of 1983.
