The MPWSP is a desalination water supply project that would include a source water intake consisting of seven subsurface slant wells located at the CEMEX properly in Marina and extending offshore int the submerged lands of Monterey bay National Marine Sanctuary; a 6.4 million gallon per day (mgd) desalination plant located on Charles Benson Rd, in unincorporated Monterey County; a water conveyance pipelines and storage facilities; and improvements to the existing Seaside Groundwater basin Aquifer Storage and Recovery facilities. The project area extends approximately 18 miles, from the town of Castroville in the north to the City of Carmel in the South.
