Document Description
CDFW is intending to execute a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code (#1600-2014-0102-R5) to the Project applicant, Steven Kahn, of the City of Santa Maria. The Project proposes to construct and operate a modern Class III lined landfill with over 90 years of refusal disposal capacity and expansion of facilities, and to support continued passive recreational land uses such as hiking trails within the property. The total area, including the perimeter of disturbance, would span two adjacent canyons. The area has been used to graze cattle and contains existing oil wells. The Project area, including the stockpile areas and associated infrastructure, is approximately 617 acres of impact. This is a "canyon fill" project that would be developed in consecutive phases over the site's life. The main canyon, which will be the first to fill, is a dense oak woodland located in a broad valley. Facilities will include a scale house, scales, equipment shop, landfill offices, and access roads.
