The permitted project includes the construction of a new K-8 magnet school on a 20-acre site in the Cit. of Adelanto, Ca. The construction will result in the permanent destruction of 20 acres of desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel habitat. The Dept. of Fish and Game, as responsible agency, is issuing an Incidental Take Permit for the desert tortoise and Mohave ground squirrel, which are protected by the CA Endangered Species Act and could be taken as a result of the project.
