The overall project objective is to create new funding mechanisms for the local share of the cost of constructing and maintaining flood control improvements and related environmental mitigation and habitat enhancements along the lower American and Sacramento Rivers and their tributaries in the Sacramento metropolitan area (Sacramento). The specific project objectives are to: (1) complete the projects necessary to provide 100-year flood protection for developed areas in Sacramento's major floodplains as quickly as possible; (2) provide urban-standard ("200-year") flood protection for developed areas in Sacramento's major floodplains does not substantially increase the expected damage of an uncontrolled flood.
