Document Description
The project involves the demolition of an existing, seismically deficient wood framed geodesic dome with a footprint of approximately 1,200 gross square feet. The existing building is used as a day care facility for kindergarten aged children. The new replacement facility will have the same purpose and capacity within an earthquake resistant structure.

Reasons for Exemption
The Sate CEQA Guidelines, Section 15302(a) provides for the replacement or reconstruction of existing school structures to provide earthquake resistant structures. The new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replacement and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced. Construction of the proposed pre-fabricated building, walkway and canopy meet the criteria. Construction activities would be of minimal scope and duration. Archaeological monitoring would prevent the destruction of cultural resources, in the unlikely event that they should be uncovered. Project construction and operation would not have a significant effect on the environment.
