A Conditional Use Permit to allow for Eel River Transportation and Salvage Scrap Yard facility to expand operations at the site. A Conditional Use Permit was issued in 1997 to allow for truck and equipment storage and limited scrap metal operations. The applicant now proposes to expand the uses at the site to include an expanded scrap metal operation and new chipping and grinding operations and construction, demolition and inert material operations. The facility is currently used to store back-upo garbage route trucks and parts from the Eel River Disposal transfer station located directly across Riverwalk Drive from the project location. The scrap metal operations currently consist of temporary storage of scrap metal, discarded appliances and are proposed to include abandoned vehicles. All materials are drained of any toxic substances prior to storage. Once a sufficient quantity is reached, the materials will be bailed and removed for recycling. The chipping and grinding operations will receive clean dry wood diverted from Eel River Disposal's material recovery operation and chip the material into functional size shards for secondary market uses. The construction, demolition and inert operation will be located inside an existing metal building where construction and demolition materials including concrete, rock, asphalt shingles and commercial wood and metals will be sorted. The facility will not be the ultimate disposal site for any materials. All materials will be transported off site once a sufficient qauntity is reached to warrant bailing and transporting. the site is ~16 acres and is currently developed with two shop buildings.
