Document Description
The proposed project will replace 47,894 linear feet of six-foot high perimeter fencing with new 8-foot high fencing, and install two feet of fencing below grade in some locations to prevent penetration by coyotes and other mammals that may interfere with operations at the airport. The existing perimeter fence on the north side of the airport runs adjacent to Elverta Road except where it turns towards the interior and skirts approximately 200 acres that is currently being leased for agricultural use. This portion of the fence will not be replaced by the project. It will remain until the area is no longer used for agriculture; at that time, the fence will be replaced with a section along the perimeter next to Elverta Road.
The conservation measures listed below have been incorporated into the proposed project by Sacramento County Airport Systems to avoid impacts to giant garter snakes (GGS). The following measures will be implemented in project areas that encroach on GGS upland habitat as noted on the site plan.
1. Conduct all construction work within the active season for GGS (i.e., between May 1 and October 1).
2. Have a biological monitor on site.
3. Have all construction workers undergo Environmental Awareness Training prior to working within 200 feet of GGS aquatic habitat.
4. Avoid the use of heavy equipment.
