Document Description
This project is to create a shaded fuel break along the Coutolenc Road for a distance of 4.7 miles with a width of 100 to 300 feet on each side of the road depending on fire behavior factors. The project encompasses approximately 115 acres. From the edge of the road surface, this shaded fuel break will be completed utilizing hand crews applying manual vegetation removal techniques with some chipping involved.

Ground disturbing activities will be minimal as word will be accomplished utilizing hand crews, and no equipment will leave existing road surfaces. Crew transport vehicles will be accomplished utilizing hand crews, and no equipment will leave existing road surfaces. A current NDDB search was conducted. Two species of wildlife, the bald eagle and valley elderberry longhorn beetle, while not within the project area could have potential to be in the area. Per US Fish and Wildlife procedures, no operations on this project will be allowed within one-quarter (1/4) mile of any bald eagle nest site during the critical period of August 15 to February 15 of any year of operation. The other species, the valley elderberry longhorn beetle inhabits exclusively elderberry shrubs. Therefore, no elderberry plants will be cut within this project area.
